Teaching and Learning Hubs
North Carolina’s Teaching and Learning Hubs were established in 2021 to provide regionally based, faculty-led professional learning designed to strengthen teaching practices and improve student outcomes. Created through collaboration among the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research, the NC Student Success Center, Achieving the Dream and the North Carolina Community College System, the Hubs introduced a scalable, statewide model for peer-led, evidence-based professional development.
Serving all 58 community colleges in North Carolina, the four regional Hubs – East, West, Central and Piedmont – complement each college’s teaching and learning efforts by offering sustainable, high-quality professional learning opportunities for both full- and part-time faculty. These efforts support a network of more than 15,000 educators across the state, helping them adopt, test and scale evidence-based strategies that drive student success.
Since their launch, the Hubs have collaborated closely with campus leaders and local educators to offer virtual and in-person workshops, seminars and ongoing development opportunities. Programming is intentionally designed to reflect local needs and priorities while building leadership capacity among faculty and regional co-directors.
The Hubs entered a new phase of strategic growth and accountability in 2025, supported by a two-year investment from the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust. In partnership with Hub colleges, the Belk Center is deepening its commitment to faculty-driven professional learning that is aligned to research-based practices and measurable outcomes – all in service of strengthening instruction and improving student outcomes statewide.
