John Braxton, D.Ed.

Bio

Dr. John M. Braxton is Professor Emeritus of Higher Education Leadership and Policy Program, Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. One of his programs of research focuses on the scholarly role performance of college and university faculty member with more recent attention centered on community college faculty. Other more recent scholarship focuses on the development of a scholarship of practice for enrollment management, student affairs and the community college presidency.

Professor Braxton has published over 110 publications in the form of articles in referred journals, books, and book. Notable among these publication is his 2015 New Directions for Community Colleges volume titled Community College Faculty Scholarship. This edited volume by Braxton includes three chapters authored by him and others.

Braxton is a recipient of the Research Achievement Award bestowed by the Association for the Study of Higher Education and the Contribution to Knowledge Award given by the American College Personnel Association (ACPA)-College Student Educators International.  Both awards are for outstanding contributions to knowledge that advance the understanding of higher education.

Professor Braxton served as the 9th Editor of the Journal of College Student Development for seven years from 2008 to 2015. He is also a past President of the Association for the Study of Higher Education.
