Dr. Janet Spriggs Announced As Respondent for 2022 Dallas Herring Lecture

Forsyth Technical Community College President Dr. Janet Spriggs will join Dr. Mike Flores, Chancellor of Alamo Colleges District in San Antonio, to highlight ways to advance equity and economic mobility within community college systems.

NC State’s College of Education and Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research announced today that Dr. Janet Spriggs, President of Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem, will be North Carolina’s featured respondent at the 2022 Dallas Herring Lecture on November 8, 2022.

Held in honor of W. Dallas Herring, the annual event invites college leaders from across the country to address critical issues facing community colleges and to explore and propose a new path forward. This year, Mike Flores, Ph.D., chancellor of the Alamo Colleges District, will lead the conversation with a lecture titled Community Colleges in Action: Advancing Equity and Enhancing Economic Mobility Using Local Collective Impact Strategies.

Immediately following Flores’ address, Dr. Spriggs will join the conversation with remarks focused on advancing equity and economic mobility by sharing adaptable models being put in practice in North Carolina.

The 2022 Dallas Herring Lecture will take place virtually on Tuesday, November 8 from 1-3 p.m. EST. The lecture is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Please register online here.

Dr. Janet Spriggs is the seventh President of Forsyth Technical Community College. A lifelong educator and former community college student, Spriggs brings more than 25 years of service to the North Carolina Community College System. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Roger Williams University, a master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University, and a doctorate in higher education administration from Northeastern University.

Her passion is for the power of education to change lives and the vital role community colleges play as catalysts for inclusive excellence in higher education, workforce, and economic development. As a student-centered visionary, Dr. Spriggs is dedicated to fostering high-quality learning, improving completion, advancing equity of success for students, and expanding post-graduation success.
