Envisioning Excellence Principal Investigator and Professor and Dean
Dr. Mary Ann Danowitz is the Dean of the College of Education at NC State University. Dr. Danowitz served previously as Professor of Higher Education and Head of the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy and Human Development. Prior to North Carolina State University, she was a senior research fellow at the Management Department of the Vienna University of Economics and Business in Austria, where she co-led a team from seven countries to develop strategies and processes to increase diversity and productivity in organizations. She has spent the last three decades studying and leading organizational change in higher education, including creating a practice based master’s degree on organizational change and her current endeavor reforming doctoral education in the College of Education at NC State.
Dr. Danowitz’s publications include more than 110 articles, book chapters and academic papers, as well as five books and monographs. Her most recent books are Women, University and Change: Gender Equality in the European Union and the United States (Palgrave-MacMillan 2007, 2012) and Diversity in Organizations: Concepts and Practices (Palgrave-MacMillan, 2012). As Dean, Dr. Danowitz shares in the College of Education’s core mission to positively impact education at all levels through original research, comprehensive extension and engagement activities, and partnerships with community college systems and the public and private sectors.
