Prior to her role as President of Haywood Community College, Dr. Barbara Parker had more than 30 years experience in K-12 where she worked in Haywood, Buncombe, and Rutherford Counties. She served in various capacities including Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Director of Middle Schools and 21st Century Professional Teaching Standards, Director of Secondary Education, Elementary and Middle School Principal, Interim Personnel Director, and teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education, Special Education K-12 – the University of Tennessee, Master of Arts in Special Education – Western Carolina University, Master of Arts in School Administration – Western Carolina University, and a Doctor of Educational Leadership – Western Carolina University.
Dr. Parker serves on numerous Boards including; Haywood County Economic Development Council, Haywood Regional Medical Center, Haywood Healthcare Foundation, Forest Restoration Alliance-Hemlock and Fir Project, Clothes to Kids, and the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research Advisory Board. She is also a member of Waynesville Rotary.
